THOU ART DUST...

I know, I know, some of you who read my blog are scratching your heads saying, "Wait a minute MiMi. I thought you said you were Mormon..." And my answer to that is, I am. I married a Mormon and converted but I was raised Catholic in a very Catholic, very Italian, very military home and for my Dad, because of my Dad and my Mom, who agreed to having her 7 children raised Catholic, I will forever honor that part of me.

My Dad and Mom, 24 and 23 years old, 1952.
They had just purchased their first home.
(My oldest sister is also in this photo.
She's hiding under my Mom's coat!)

Catholic or Mormon, I love and serve the same Lord my Dad raised me to love and serve and forever I will.

I love you Daddy and I miss you.
I pray for you always, just as you prayed for me..

Beautiful post Mimi! Love that picture of your Mom and Dad!! Good-looking parents! I remember Lent, I was raised Catholic. When I was a kid, on Ash Wednesday I was so proud to have that dust on my forehead b/c the nuns said that meant you were special! LOL! I haven’t been reading your blog long enough to know you were Mormon but that’s cool. After a lifelong quest, I don’t adhere to any religion but I still believe in God. You were one of 7 kids? I am the oldest of 6. I take it from what you wrote your Dad is gone? Is your Mom still with you? Both of my parents are gone now. That proverb is one of my favorite.

@Jersey - Aw, thank you.. I have definitely been blessed in my life that's for sure. Yep, we are the "Magnificent Seven!" Lol.. I'm #6 in line. :) Not being a rule follower religion on the whole has been a struggle for me. I always say I'm a spiritual person not a religious person but I try, as much as it may not appear to be so, to at least follow some of the "rules." I don't know if that makes thing worse or better but God knows my heart and I'm pretty sure He loves me. :) Yes my Dad is gone 5 years now and I miss him every day but especially on days that were so him, ya' know? My Mom is still with us, sort of, she suffers from dementia so we take it day by day. I'm sorry your parents are gone. Missing someone is such an undefined ache.. And the nuns were right, you ARE special. :)

I love this post, Mimi, and I love that picture of your parents! I treasure the values my parents instilled in me, so I can relate to how you feel.

@Jill - Thank you. It's one of my favorite photos because it's pretty much the beginning of all of us and I too treasure all that my parents so unselfishly gave..

Lovely post MiMi. Love the old photo of your mom and dad. The way you described their trek with the paczki, which I concur are yum, was so well written that I felt like I was right there with you waiting for them to arrive. Thanks for taking us with you down memory lane. :)

Wonderful post. Proverbs 22:6 is a scripture that is close to my heart.

@Lily - Oh hey! HI SPAWN!!! Thanks for visiting with you Mom! :D You're very observant. I do indeed look a lot like my Mom but with my Dad's smile. :) And I agree, they were a pretty awesome couple.. And just so ya' know Mz. Lily, *I* know that you're no heathen.. Just like I know that Spawn's real nickname is AMAZING. ;) Thanks for stopping by you two! What a great surprise.

What a sweet post. Something that more people should keep in mind about all of our various ways of practicing our faith. I sit here right now with a big, black ashy cross on my forehead. My Catholicism is because of my mother, my Daddy wasn't a churchgoer. But in all truth, he trained me up in the way I should go every bit as much as Mama, he may not have gone to church, but I always say that he was the most "Christian" man I ever knew.

Magical Mystical MiMi said...

@Gretchen - Thank you so much. :) And what's that saying? Go to church doesn't make you any more of a Christian than standing in your garage makes you a car. :) Your Daddy sounds like my kind of man. And your Mama too. Thanks for stopping by. :)

Such a beautiful post, Mimi! I love the you cherish your roots while still maintaining your current life. You know when it comes to religion, I really think was are all just trying to get to the same place. The arms of that which sparked our soul. Warmest hugs, Mina
