APPARENTLY I DON'T DO MONDAYS

Clearly I don't because I didn't post a damn thing yesterday and worse, I can't even remember anything that actually pops out that happened yesterday! It's like the whole day was a blur of doing a whole lotta' nuthin'! Which is fine, "do nothing days" are good but I had a list! I had a plan! It was Monday and I wanted to start the week on a productive note. The sun was finally shining and it was 40 degrees outside! And that's all I remember. And I only remember that because the icecicles were melting from the roof and all I heard was the incessant, ever so annoying, drip, drip, drip. Needless-to-say, nothing on my oh so productive list was touched but I did notice that a lot of my dvr'd 'Castle' episodes are missing from my dvr list, as well as a half a bag of Cheetos, some ice cream and most of the M&M's from the sacred M&M jar. But like I said. The day was a blur.

Today however has been productive. I know because I'm participating in a "time management" study, classroom of one, that would be Moi. I'm logging my every moment, what I do when and how so I can see where and what I am spending my time on. At a glance I see a lot of FaceBook and too much t.v., both of which I will be cutting waaayyy back on, replacing both with much more productive and creative endeavors.

Ideally I would like to take t.v. out of the equation altogether. I've never been a huge fan of t.v., especially reality t.v. but if the "idiot box" is on I am sure to watch and if I watch then I will inevitably get hooked on some cop show or a PBS series or the History Channel and of course, I'm a news whore. I feel like I must know what's going on at every moment of the day, here, there and everywhere around this awesome universe of ours. CNN is the background music of my life. So I'm in the productive process of making changes. The t.v. shows I can always order on Amazon and tuck away for those days when I need a 'Castle'  or 'Criminal Minds' fix and my beloved news I'll limit myself to the morning and evening editions. I think that's do-able. Anderson Cooper I'll miss you..

In place of FaceBook and t.v. time I will be writing, reading, crafting, sewing, taking photos and spending as much time outdoors as I possibly can. I am imposing a media detox ritual on myself and on my life!

Another productive moment of today, choosing my 'Word Of The Year.' I chose the word "creativity" and thus, this will be a year of creativity for me, expressing my creativity in every aspect of my life and creating something new and fun every day for the rest of 2013. I'm really excited about this and really excited to share some of my creativity with all of you.

If you ever figure out how to totally get rid of TV, please let me know. I tried it once. I think I lasted ten minutes.

@Judy - I know. It's a tuff one isn't it? I think I'm just going to remove the box and t.v., out of sight, out of mind. An even bigger step. Calling and cancelling cable. I'm working on it. :)

Oh, I so, so wish I could get rid of the television! And the damn video games, and the smart phones...I'm seriously considering implementing a new rule around the house: No technology after 7:00 PM, and an 6-hour limit on technology over Saturday & Sunday!

[She states, as she sits on her computer at 8:24 PM! HA!]

@Kelly - I'm going to give it a really good try. I just haven't decided if I want to go cold turkey or ween myself off a little at a time. I think that is a great idea. For me with my kids "quiet time" always started at 6pm. No video games, nothing that would get them excited. It was time to wind down, have dinner, take baths, read or watch t.v. but it couldn't be a crazy show that would wind the boys up again, it had to be something quiet. It worked. Keep us posted if you actually put that plan into action. I'd be curious to see how the techno kids of today deal with the restrictions.

Castle episodes, a bag of Cheetos, some ice cream and M&Ms sounds like my perfect evening.

I've cut down to watching about 2 programmes a day, it helps that there is nothing but trash on the TV.
I've told Spawn to get use to the idea of having no Telly soon as I'm thinking of running away and going to live in a Kibbutz. xx

@Lily - I couldn't agree more. There really is nothing on for all the 300+ channels we have only a handful of it is good programming. Kibbutz? Well, save me a seat, I'll come too! :D

Love your word for the year! Can't wait to see what you come up with.

I know all about the idiot box dilemma because I'm finding myself watching it more than I would like too and also looking back on days at a time and not knowing what I've done. (probably because it's nothing lol)

You're moving West? Sounds exciting!

Wow...I think you totally described me...I have the tv constantly running in the background...which means once I get those scrubbing bubbles guys doing their thing...I find my spot on the couch...and delay the doing of my thing...ugh...I am thinking I will limit mine too..off with the tv on with the music!! yes, that is what I will do! One word..hmmm, I can't figure out how to put mine in one word... I want to do so much this year..organize..make each holiday special...give...hmmm superwoman maybe??

@Faith - Superwoman is a GREAT word! :D And yep. I'm putting the kabosh on the idiot box. It's such a time sucker.. :p
